Rush, Initiation, Brotherhood

 

Rush Eligibility


If you are eligible to rush, you should receive a flyer in the mail one to two weeks before rush begins.  But, just in case...


If you are between 12 and 33 credits, you need a 3.5 GPA to rush.

If you are between 33 and 90 credits or have at least 3 semesters until graduation, you need a 3.3 GPA to rush.

~

If you will graduate in the next 3 semesters, you are ineligible to rush.

~

Studying abroad immediately after your initiation semester is not allowed.

Initiation Program


Alpha Beta Chapter has an intensive 7 week initiation program that each membership candidate completes before becoming a brother.  This program requires initiates to:


Attend 7 initiate meetings and study hours held on Sunday.

~

Complete 1 service, 1 scholarship, 1 fellowship, and 1 fundraising event.

~

Learn our national and local history, fraternity songs, chapter chant, your class chant, the Greek alphabet, Parliamentary procedure, and the location of other chapters.

~

Complete brotherhood and initiate interviews.

~

Pass the national and local history exams by 80 percent.

~

Attend 3 general brotherhood meetings on Tuesday evening

~

Attend pinning and initiation ceremony, initiate lock-in and big-little night.

~

Initiate dues are $275.00

Membership Requirements


Members of the Alpha Beta Chapter of Phi Sigma Pi have requirements and responsibilities to fulfill in order to fulfill membership duties and remain in good standing.  These include:


Attend all but 3 general brotherhood meetings held on Tuesday evenings.

Attend all but 3 required rush and initiation events.

~

Attend one initiate meeting or study hour.

~

Complete one service, one social and one scholarship event.

~

Do 4 hours of fundraising.

~

Active membership dues are $100.00 per semester. 

~

Members are eligible for national inactivity during a semester in which they do not attend the University of Maryland (i.e. studying abroad).
